Welcome to Sertoma 4-H Educational Center!
Sertoma 4-H Center covers nearly 900 acres in the beautifully forested Sauratown Mountains of North Carolina. Located off Moore’s Springs Road in Stokes County, about 25 miles north-northeast of Winston-Salem, it is centrally located and an easy car ride from most anywhere in the state. Despite its proximity to some of North Carolina's major urban areas, it retains a quiet relaxed atmosphere that makes it seem worlds away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Enjoy Nature's Wonders Without Traveling Far
When you come to the center, you'll get to relive part of our state's
history. Back in the late 1800s and early 1900s, North Carolina was a
popular destination for people seeking rejuvenation and relaxation at
the state's many mineral springs resorts. One of the popular resorts they
visited was on land that is now the Sertoma 4-H Center. For his resort,
owner Cicero Tise chose the name Vade Mecum Springs. The name incorporates
a Latin phrase that means “come with me”.
When Mr. Tise died in 1917, he left a will that expressed his desire that
the property be used to enhance lives as they participated in educational,
religious or scientific endeavors. Since that time the facility has been
operated by the Episcopal Diocese, Easter Seals and the Yadkinville and
Winston-Salem Sertoma Clubs. The Sertoma Clubs turned it over to North
Carolina State University in 1981. The university's Cooperative Extension
Service and the 4-H Program now use the facility to offer programs for
children and adults.
Today, Sertoma 4-H Center is used as a gathering place for a number of
youth and adult conferences, retreats, training events and camps held
from March through November.
Tailor A Program to Meet Your Special Needs
One of the ways in which 4-H broadens the reach of its research-based, learn-by-doing programs is by making Sertoma 4-H Center available as a training center for various groups. Let us help you design your next event.
To utilize the center, simply write, email or call our office. The center director will then contact you and work with you to confirm your reservations and help you custom-design a stay that will meet your needs. When you leave, we hope you will have been refreshed and uplifted by the beautiful vistas and the exciting programs that our Center has to offer.
