Deaf Camp Staff Information Sheet
The Atlantic Region Sertoma Deaf Camp Committee is in need of signing Cabin Counselors to provide leadership and daily support of deaf, hard of hearing or hearing children with deaf or hard of hearing family members for our 27th annual Sertoma Deaf Camp. The Sertoma Clubs of North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland support this camp. The camp is held at Sertoma 4-H Educational Center, near Hanging Rock State Park in Danbury, NC. Counselors will be required to attend training with the regular summer staff at Sertoma 4-H Center and then provide assistance and leadership during the week of Deaf Camp.

Training week:  June 10-12, 2009
Camp week: June 21-26, 2009

Applicants should have skills to work with deaf, hard of hearing and hearing campers. Prior experience with working with children in a camping environment will be considered. Applicants must be at least 18 and have completed high school.

Campers will be assigned to cabins by age group. Our ratio of counselors to campers will be 1:4 for each cabin. We are anticipating 6 cabins of boys and 6 cabins of girls. Counselors will stay in the cabins with the campers and accompany them throughout the week to all classes and activities. Signing counselors will work in conjunction with the non-signing summer staff to make the week of Deaf Camp a memorable and meaningful week for all campers.

Summer Camp Signing Staff will be paid at a rate of $25 per day plus room and board. You will be paid for the training day(s) as well as camp week
